Dr Nandita Shah of SHARAN India explains how the benefits of milk associated with calcium and bone are often exaggerated. According to him, a lot of people who eat dairy but still have osteoporosis. If milk is the best source of calcium and can prevent osteoporosis, why people who eat them for over a year still have osteoporosis?
People who have osteoporosis are usually advised to eat more dairy products, calcium tablets, vitamin D, and exercise. But most of them do not improve. Why, because most people do not know that osteoporosis is caused by a lack of calcium intake, but the loss of calcium from the body.
Our bodies are alkaline. Every time we eat something acidic, it will absorb calcium from bones and neutralize them. By doing so we have lost calcium. Milk and foods containing high acidic protein in the body, so that it can absorb calcium from bone. This is not widely known by people of osteoporosis, as reported by Health Site (26/12).
Here are some foods that can cause acid in the body and absorb calcium from the bones, including milk:
- Fish
- Chicken
- Tea
- Soda
- The coffee
- The sugar

- Salt
- Alcohol
So how do I prevent osteoporosis without relying on milk? There are many foods that contain calcium and will not absorb calcium from bone. One is sesame. Sesame contains 10 times more calcium than milk. In addition, you can also eat some of the following foods:
- ASI
- Almonds
- Dried apricots
- Vegetable bits
- Watercress
- Hazelnuts
- Kale
- Lettuce
- Figs
Those are some foods that can help you meet calcium needs. Do not just rely on milk because milk can also absorb calcium and gnaw your bones and cause osteoporosis.
