Female Circumcision case.

A doctor in Egypt sentenced to 2 years for vandalizing female genitalia (FGM), or in Egypt commonly called female circumcision, which led to the death of a 13-year-old child.

The ruling was issued by the court of appeal in the city of Mansoura, Nile Delta region on Monday, January 26th.

Appeal filed by parties opposed to the practice of FGM, which appealed against before the court, which frees the deaths Suhair Raslan Fadl al-Bataa.

Experienced by Fadl case is the first case related to FGM are up at the judgment bar.

Spokesman for the group Equality Now Suad Abu-Dayyeh said the ruling is a monumental victory for women and girls in Egypt.

"This country showed regulation will be upheld and we hope that this be the first step to end the practice of extreme violence against women forever," said Suad.

Suhair al-Bataa died in June 2013, after allegedly undergone female circumcision procedure with the destruction of the genitals. The practice is still widely practiced Egyptian society, even though officially been banned since 2008.

The number of girls who died of FGM is not known for certain, because death after undergoing FGM is usually recorded as deaths due to antibiotic drug allergies or bleeding. Thank you for reading this article.
