Because Thaksin Still Heroes .
The opposition continues to uproot the Shinawatra clan , but it was not easy .
For rural communities , Thaksin Shinawatra , the former Prime Minister who is also brother of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is the hero .
In a village called Kambon , in northeastern Thailand , where electricity is still a luxury new , anyone would easily answer if posed a simple question : who is making progress in this place .
Thaksin Shinawatra is the answer .
The figure of the prime minister who was ousted in a military coup in 2006, it has not been replaced in the hearts of residents of rural Thailand .
Thaksin is a wealthy businessman as well as a sister Yingluck Shinawatra is now becoming the number one in the land of the White Elephant .
Founder of Advanced Info Service company 's most successful mobile phone operator in Thailand , now living in Dubai on the run to avoid a 2 -year sentence for corruption and abuse of authority , but remains a respected figure as influential politician in Thailand .
In the eyes of the opposition , 64 -year-old man is like eating a corrupt figure of billions of dollars of government budget to raise sympathy for the poor and uneducated .
Opposition groups are middle class and educated citizens who live in the urban majority .
But in Kambon , Thaksin is still considered a saint .
" Ten years ago , the streets that you pass to here is still muddy , there was no electricity and no irrigation , " said Pichai Poltaklang a retired elementary school teacher and coordinator of the supporters and sympathizers of Thaksin's political movement , or commonly known as the Red Shirts .
He then mentions the programs that run during Thaksin's populist rule , among other free health care , education costs low and annuities .
" Before Thaksin was in power , we really forgotten , " he added .
Thailand is currently facing political and social divisions massive as today , when dealing with the poor outskirts of the urban elite , triggering bloody clashes on the streets of Bangkok , areas like Kambon has a standby support Thaksin .
There are tens of thousands of such villages scattered Kambon and tumur northern region of Thailand . Millions of people who can at any time in order Thaksin took to the streets when the street heats the escalation of violence and the government threatened his brother .
Even if there are no orders to take to the streets, the threat was secretly kept there.
" Throughout the northeastern region ( Thailand ) , we can take control of government offices in every county , city and even the province , " boast Thongplaen Boonphunga illustrates the power of mass Red Shirt .
The elite may call the followers of Thaksin are villagers and uneducated , but Boonphunga warned , many ungodly amount of them in Thailand .
Kambon located in the northeast of Thailand , densely populated agricultural center that has long forgotten the central government in Bangkok .
As Thailand's economy developed rapidly and become one of the Asian tigers , millions of farmers continue to struggle in the countryside that has barely changed since their ancestors .
However , that all changed under Thaksin . The man who was born in San Kamphaeng , Chiang Mai , northern Thailand is using his wealth as a telecommunications entrepreneur to go into politics .
He became prime minister in 2001 after founded the Thai Rak Thai party in 1998 .
For his followers in a rural area , Thaksin is a person who understands the condition of its people and find a way to improve their lives .
In Kambon , like elsewhere in Thailand , people were waiting to see what happens after the temporary peace to commemorate the anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej , and soon the fall harvest underway .
Nothing is eager to take to the streets today , while still much work to be done .
Actions massive Red Shirt mass usually coincides with a hot spring when farmers have more free time .
