Qatar finally retreated from basketball women's Asian Games after organizers do not allow the country's women's team to wear hijab while competing.
"We decided to no longer take part in basketball at the Asian Games," said an official of Qatar Olympic Committee in an interview with Reuters on Thursday (25/9).
This problem began when Qatari women's team arrived at the field by wearing a headscarf when going against a team of Mongolia, on Wednesday.
Officials asking them to remove the head cover is based on the rules of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) which states that basketball players should not wear hats, hair accessories, or jewelry.
Qatar team rejected this request and then they were declared lost to Mongolia.
On Thursday, Nepal and Qatar scheduled to fight after learning organizers do not loosen regulations, Qatar women's team stepped down from this branch.
