When buying a hifi devices usually we will see the power of sound with rod
PMPO or RMS measure , for example a 1200 watt PMPO or 180 watts RMS .
Which is more certain size PMPO or RMS ?
It turns out that the RMS is closer to certainty and more trustworthy .
RMS stands for Root Mean Square , is obtained by averaging the peak output power is done many times in a long time .
This figure is calculated after exceeding a series of tests and get the average of the results obtained in the best and worst conditions , so these numbers are actually better describe the actual output power .
While PMPO or Peak Performance momentary output is calculated by the vendor or tester 's audio system speakers as the maximum force in a perfect state . Obviously it can not be displayed in real usage .
There is no sound system that can withstand the maximum PMPO more than a few
milliseconds without being damaged .
The amount of power generated from the audio speakers are usually calculated in units of Watts , which is commonly abbreviated as " W " . But the vendors are counted in two different ways - " watts RMS " and " watts PMPO " . RMS stands for " Root - Mean - Square " , a mathematical equation that produces an accurate count and have a sense of power output produced by speakers . PMPO itself stands for " Peak Music Power Output " , a term created by marketing people as if they are selling the speakers seem to be more " powerful " than reality ..
For example , which would be more impressive : 10 watts RMS or 250 watts PMPO ? in fact , we are actually talking about the same speakers .. or other tricks example : " 300 watt Four channel amplifier " actually has meaning 150 watts RMS divided into four channels , or 37.5 watts RMS per channel .
But they also are not fully to blame , because there are several methods of calculation of power ( which is usually half or less than watts RMS )
- Peak power
- Max power
- IPP - Instantaneous Peak Power
- PMPO - Peak Music Power Output.
