By utilizing the Internet , the use of computers across the world it is possible to communicate with each other and sharing information with each other how to send e - mails , connect to other computers , send and receive files , discuss a particular topic on the newsgroup and others .

But actually an Intranet does not need external connection to the Internet to function properly . Companies that build an extranet can exchange large volumes of data with EDI ( Electronic Data Interchange ) , in collaboration with other companies in a network of cooperation and others .
