According to its inventor , Charles Stevens , each gram of thorium has the energy equivalent of 28 390 liters of petrol . With 8 grams of thorium could run the average car for 5,000 hours or the equivalent mileage of 480,000 miles or over the life of the ideal vehicle itself .
Previously , Cadillac had introduced a thorium -powered concept car at the Chicago Auto Show 2009 designed by Lorus Kulesus .
The vehicle does not have a nuclear power plant reactor from Thorium is actually functioning . However , General Motors has thought of an interesting idea to create and show off this car concept .
