Ancient items such as pieces of the ship are expected relic of the 12th century was found in the Chinese city of Medan Marelan site, North Sumatra. Earthmoving led by French archaeologist Daniel Perret managed to find fragments of ancient vessels in the Chinese city of Medan Marelan at a depth of 1.40 meters. Flakes ship was found on the dig box size 3 × 4 meters are located on the front page of China City Museum excavated site since February 6, 2012.

In the same box also found many other denominations such as the ancient Chinese ceramics, glass beads and even flakes of gold and rust. "However, from what age, what nation the boat owners how to shape, age and function can not be answered because it requires more research," he said.

Research ranging from carbon dating tests in laboratories abroad should be conducted to determine the absolute age of the ancient ship. The finding that more and more convinced that the city of Medan has a long history as an international city since the 12th century.

"China City Excavation at the site is expected to unveil the mysteries of an ancient city which is very important," he said. Research and excavation was funded by the French government through the French Institute for Asian Studies (EFEO) carried out since 28 April 2011 and led by Dr. Daniel Perret.

The study involved 30 researchers and helpers who carried out field of cooperation between the National Archaeological Center, Archaeological Institute of Medan, Pussis Unimed and City Museum of China.
The findings strengthen the hypothesis about the role of the Chinese city as a city of commerce in East Sumatra in the 11th century as confirmed by Dr. Edwards McKinnon in his doctoral dissertation at Cornell University in the United States.

Edwards did research in China's largest town since 1972-1977, the findings obtained antiquities, among others, a statue of Buddha and Chinese ceramics
